Fences PDF – Overview
Fences tells a story that many American families can relate to, but that doesn’t mean that Fences is a true story. In fact, Fences is based on a play by the same name from renowned playwright August Wilson. It explores the evolving African-American experience and examines race relations, among other themes.
Fences play won the 1987 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 1987 Tony Award for Best Play. Fences was first developed at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center’s 1983 National Playwrights Conference and premiered at the Yale Repertory Theater in 1985.
