Modified Barthel index is a measure of physical disability widely used to assess behaviors relating to activities of daily living for stroke patients or patients with other disabling conditions.
Modified Barthel index measures what patients do in practice. Assessment is made by anyone who knows the patient well. It measures the degree of assistance required by an individual on 10 items of mobility and self care ADL.
The Barthel Scale/Index (BI) is an ordinal scale used to measure performance in activities of daily living (ADL). Ten variables describing ADL and mobility are scored, a higher number being a reflection of greater ability to function independently following hospital discharge.
